A Study on Transfusion of Denatured Ox-plasma

Abstract
In order to elucidate the possibility of transfusion of ox-plasma to human body as a plasma substitute, a preliminary study on rabbits injected intravenously with normal ox-plasma and formol-treated ox-plasma was tried, and the following results were obtained:
1. Rabbits injected with a single dose of 10ml of normal ox-plasma died within 2 minutes after inj$ction, while animals survived repeated infusions of treated ox-plasma of the same dose.
2. Approximately 80% of animals injected daily with 10 ml of treated ox-plasma survived for 3 to 4 weeks and 40% for 3 months, with increasing number of death of anaphylactic shock in the course_ of time.
3. Animals injected weekly with 10 ml of treated ox-plasma survived the second injection in 100%, the third in 60%, the fifth in 20% and the twelfth injection in 20%.
4. The biochemical study of the treated ox-plasma revealed slightly decreased total serum protein content caused by decreased serum albumin, with proportionally increased serum globulin content.
The electrophoretic pattern of the plasma showed non-fractionized globulin and markedly decreased or even complete loss of y-globulin fraction.
